Byzantine history told through its books
Speaker: Tom Harris
Audiences are invited to a discussion about the books of the Byzantine Empire, including their transmission, their illustration, the lives of their creators, and the politics of their destruction. Through interpreting these manuscripts, we will explore the empire that oversaw Europe’s transition from ancient paganism to Christianity, and was the medieval threshold between east and west, as well as between ancient knowledge and its modern heritage. Attendance also includes museum entry, where a collection of Byzantine manuscripts and artifacts is held.
