Anatomy of a Book

Medical books from State Library Victoria

This talk will explore highlights of the Library’s impressive holdings of medical texts, from a medieval pharmacopeia manuscript through to magnificent, illustrated sixteenth-century volumes by Andreas Vesalius (recently acquired with donor support) and Charles Estienne. A highlight will be the richly illustrated first European work on Chinese medicine, published in 1686 and recently acquired with the support of a generous donor.

Held in the Digital Laboratory, SLV.
