Curated by Helen Laffin. Curator, RACS Heritage Collection
This exhibition offers a rare glimpse into the medical treasures from the RACS’s Cowlishaw Collection, originally assembled by Leslie Cowlishaw (1877-1943), first honorary librarian for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. The collection comprises some 2,000 volumes, including Guy de Chauliac's Cyrurgia (1499), as well as early editions of the works of Hippocrates, Galen, and Celsus. Also featured are the 1555 edition of Vesalius's De humani corporis fabrica, and Pare’s 1568 edition of Tractie de la Peste, along with many English books from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
