Hoping Against Hope:
500 years of resistance and resilience in Ukrainian Print Culture
Curators: Dr. Anne Holloway, Deanna Ramsey and Genevieve Stechiwskyj.
This exhibition, echoing the title of Lesia Ukrainka’s poem ‘Contra Spem Spero’, explores the enduring motif of resilience in Ukrainian culture. The items displayed from our Ada Booth Slavic Collection span more than 500 years, emphasising Ukrainian perspectives that have historically been suppressed, silenced and diminished. The chosen stories illuminate the connected values of resilience, resistance and hope interwoven throughout different generations of Ukrainians.
