2024 marks the 550th anniversary of the first book printed with moveable type in English, made by William Caxton. The Library holds the only complete Caxton volume in Australia and fragments from eight other titles. The lecture explores what is known of Caxton, the significance and provenance of the Library’s Caxton items, and something of the printers that followed Caxton’s lead. The lecture will be illustrated with examples from the Library.
